Within Suichong's bloodline, a deep-seated fear of fire clashes with his divinity as a fortune bringer. While he holds the power to bless and guard, he is also burdened with the primal dread of the color red and firecrackers. After years of living in the modern world, Suichong claims to have conquered them all... or at least, that's what he tells others. He's made a home in a small shrine deep in the mountains of Section Hunk. Years ago, he had tried to interact with the locals, but his intimidating appearance led the villagers to see him as a monster. They drove him away with firecrackers. Bound by a Nian beast's innate fear of fire, Suichong fled in terror back to the mountains.
After saving hikers from a monster's attack, he bestowed some good luck upon them while he was at it. Word of the encounter spread through Section Hunk, turning into a rumor about an "efficacious little shrine." Though many have tried to find it, only a few ever reach the doorstep. Those who manage to find him usually have gloomy stories. Suichong likes to listen to those stories, and would grant fortune to those who show sincerity. To him, it isn't charity but his divine duty as a guardian beast.
Despite Suichong's resolve to reconnect with the society, he still sways between curiosity and caution toward the modern world. When it comes to food, he favors the traditional red bean buns and custard buns. He hesitated to try modern desserts at first, but once he tasted them, he was instantly addicted to the flavors. To meet new people, a friend helped him set up a smartphone and download a dating app, allowing him to take the first step toward friendship from a safe, comfortable distance.
Suichong has a weakness for anything cute despite his imposing looks—he is particularly fond of soft mascots and plushies. Don't be intimidated by his appearance if you want to get on his good side. Bringing him a trendy dessert or a cute little keychain as a gift is surely a way to win his heart.
