The elusive Bakedanuki known as Kagekuni seems to be the owner of the enigmatic Happyakuya Inugami Retreat. Always seated quietly amid piles of antiques, he gives off an air of knowing far more than he lets on. Try asking about his past, and you're likely to receive an answer so cryptic it leaves you more puzzled than before. Is he being evasive—or are truths of this world simply too complex to grasp?

Though technically the shopkeeper, don't expect him to greet you with a cheery "Welcome!" According to Kagekuni, the Retreat itself chooses its guests. That said, if he so desires, it seems he can handpick certain customers, too. However, no one truly knows how he—or the Retreat—picks their customers. A former visitor once claimed that talking to Kagekuni felt like he already knew his every thought and move... and somehow, that just ruined his day.

Kagekuni is a man of mystery, never letting his true thoughts slip. Sharp-minded and socially adept, he's also surprisingly pragmatic. Though he honors promises and lends help where he can, it's rarely without his own interests in mind. Despite his aloofness, he keeps a close eye on the other Bakedanuki—especially troublemakers like Tamamaru—quietly cleaning up after their messes or slipping them dried fruits with a grandfatherly tenderness he'd never admit to.

As for Kagekuni's true motives...? He's not the type to open up easily. You'll have to piece together the fragments of half-truths he lets slip—phrases that seem to say everything and nothing at the same time. Some say Kagekuni once led a renowned life far from the Retreat, before the fall of his people brought him here to live among the Bakedanuki. Others claim he once struck a pact with the Retreat itself to become its owner. As for the truth... only Kagekuni knows, and he isn't telling.
